The Game Boy Color version of Grand Theft Auto is a condensed adaptation of the original. Released in the USA, it shares many similarities with the European version though region-specific details in the localization might differ. It was notable for porting the then relatively mature gameplay to the handheld device.  The technical limitations of the Game Boy Color resulted in simpler graphics and gameplay than the home console versions.  The game aimed to deliver the core elements of the franchise for the portable gaming market.
