Dig Dug is an arcade game developed and released by Namco in 1982. The player controls Dig Dug, an adventurous miner, who must defeat subterranean monsters by pumping them up with his pump and then popping them. The original arcade version featured simple, yet addictive, gameplay, charming graphics for its time and memorable sound effects. Its success led to numerous ports and sequels, including versions on the Nintendo Entertainment System. The NES versions generally maintain the core gameplay but with variations in graphical presentation and sometimes additional features. Several different versions of the game exist across various regions with minor differences. Namco developed and published the original and subsequent versions.
