Cliffhanger, based on the action movie of the same name, made its way to the Sega CD. The game used the CD's capacity for full-motion video (FMV) and digitized audio to create a more cinematic experience. This meant a greater amount of cutscenes and possibly a higher quality of animation compared to other titles. The gameplay was predominantly action-oriented, putting the player into action sequences similar to the film's intense stunts and scenarios. While the FMV sequences were a selling point, the actual gameplay was fairly straightforward.
